Introducing Kevin E Green, narrator for the Inkarna audiobook

I am *so* excited to introduce Kevin E Green, a UK-based actor who'll be narrating the audiobook version of my revised edition of Inkarna. The novel's been out of print for a number of years now, but I'm currently working hard to bring out the sequel, and for that to happen, it's meant that I've had to roll up my sleeves and spruce up book one too. I'll be welcoming a whole host of new readers to the world of Those Who Return.

But first, a little about Kevin...

"I started narrating in earnest when I took early retirement some years ago. I have since narrated over 70 books covering all genres from steamy romance to psychological thrillers, plus a number of non fiction. I have over 30 years acting experience which helps in voicing and characterisation. I think my favourite genres are murder mysteries and thrillers.  My background before retiring was in science and engineering, so I have no problems narrating technical non-fiction! Inkarna on sale now (and hear me read an excerpt)

So, David, my wonderful publisher over at Dark Continents Publishing, has convinced me to do a reading from Inkarna and send him the file to upload on YouTube. So you get to hear my fabulous "sethfrican" accent and I even speak a little Afrikaans too.

For those of you who're yet to pick up Inkarna, it's been getting rave reviews, people adore me and want to vote me in as the world's benevolent dictator. LOL! Okay maybe not that drastic. But the book has done well, and the majority of the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive (thank you).

At time of posting (July 20, 2013) it's on special at Amazon for only $2.99, so if you're yet to pick up a copy, I won't complain too vociferously. ;-)

Recapping my recent blog tour

About two weeks ago I launched my most recent title brought out by Dark Continents Publishing, Inkarna, by running a short blog tour. Now I *could* have gone the route of tracking down some high-traffic book-bloggers' sites and, while this would no doubt have given me a bunch of fresh minions, I opted instead to have five very special ladies host me on my official tour. Why? Each of them are very dear to me and I'd like an opportunity to shine the spotlight on them while I'm at it.

I kicked off on Amy Lee Burgess's blog with a brief introduction about the origins of the novel. Now Amy and I have known each other for ages, but I'd like to make mention of her series that's currently available at Lyrical Press. I absolutely adore these tales about Stanzie, a wolf shifter. The story is quite unlike what one would expect for the paranormal genre. I can guarantee you'll be sucked right in.

Then there's Sonya Clark, one of my best finds during my stint as editor at Lyrical Press. She writes from the heart, combining two of my favourite topics: vampires and music. She's currently got a novella and a novel available, and her writing is magic, pure and simple. She graciously allowed me to chat about the Egyptian conception of the afterlife on her blog.

I absolutely adore Icy Sedgwick and totally believe that she's going to achieve greatness. Her writing thrills me the same way Neil Gaiman and JK Rowling do. A master storyteller, she has a way of bringing out the magical and whimsical in her works, and she gave me space on her blog to chat about the conflict between the rival Inkarna Houses in my novel.

Not only is Synde Korman a dear friend I've recently gotten to know, who's been there for me when I needed a shoulder to cry on, but she's a book blogger with a love for books and music--a magical combination. Not only that, but she makes kick-ass jewellery (and I wear a custom-designed necklace she made for me almost every day). She gave me space to chat about my protagonist's development.

And on the final day, my dear friend and co-writer, Carrie Clevenger had me over. She's the mastermind behind the Crooked Fang phenomenon. Once again, we have a strong link: music and writing, and I consider Carrie to be a force to be reckoned with in literary circles. Watch out for this lady. She's going places. For the last day of the blog tour, she gave me a space to chat about location, location, location!

Once again, I'd like to thank these ladies for having me over, and for offering their friendship. You're all amazing and I'm honoured to know you.

Inkarna on an ereader near you

My “heart” novel I wrote in 2011 has finally hit an ereader near you. Yep, if you’re one of the growing newer generation of readers who’ve taken to onscreen reading, then you can now buy and download Inkarna before the print release.

But it’s my last one…

When Carrie and I wrote Blood and Fire (our Crooked Fang and Inkarna mash-up) we had originally intended to bring the title out on our own, as a treat to our readers before the release of the two solo novels featuring Carrie’s vampire, Xan Marcelles, and my Inkarna, Ashton Kennedy.

When the chance came to release via Dark Continents Publishing’s Tales of Darkness and Dismay collection, we grabbed it with both hands. By that time, however, we’d already commissioned cover art created by the very talented Daniël Hugo. Based in Cape Town, South Africa, he is known for his comic-book illustrations, and has worked on numerous projects, including a movie poster for the award-winning indie film, Regression by BlackMilk Productions.

We were (and still are) so over the moon with the final results that we had 10 full-colour, limited-edition prints made of the cover before we had the typography added by Dr-Benway (also a stunning artist, go check out his work). We got Daniël to sign and stamp these and, would you know, I have one left (without typography on it).

Blood and Fire unleashed

With the festive madness and NYE behind us, and I hope not too many of you are nursing the after-effects of too much indulgence. Things have been a bit disjointed at the Treehaus. I've been a tad under the weather with problems related to liver toxicity thanks to the meds I've been on. This, unfortunately, necessitated a short stay in hospital, but I'm back home and booked off while I recover. I've also cut back a bit on my working so I can rest up but it's going to have to take a severe case of death to keep me away from the one thing that I love more than anything else: words.

But there is some good news amid the "fun" over my festive season. The Top Sekret Projekt Carrie and me were working on, Blood and Fire, has been released in its Kindle edition on Amazon. It's available in a lot of countries, so if you're itching with something decent to read that involves tall, dark and looming males, some of them with extra byte, then do take a look here.

The cover art is rather lovely, and I'll be blogging over at Dark Continents Publishing in a few days to give a more indepth look into our creative process for the story.

Inkarna uncovered!

Some of you may have heard rumblings about my dark fantasy novel, Inkarna, which I sold to Dark Continents Publishing earlier this year. Well, I'm pleased as punch to reveal the cover art. Artwork is by none other than Dr-Benway himself, who's known for his fetish, glam and bizarre photography. Not only that, but he's one of the scriptwriters and directors for BlackMilk Productions, an award-winning independent film production company. He also happens to be my Dear Husband, who has to put up with me dwelling in my imaginary worlds.

A little about the novel: Inkarna is the tale involving conflict between members of an ancient Egyptian reincarnation cult. It plays off in Cape Town, South Africa. There's plenty of action and misadventures which follows my protagonist, Ash, who returns to the material realm in the wrong body--then has to deal with the consequences of unwittingly getting lumped with a terrible secret.

The novel's currently undergoing its first editing rounds and I'm very excited (and just ever so slightly nervous) to find out what my editor is going to do to it with her red pen and scalpel blades.

Inkarna update...

So, it's a really good feeling to press that "send" button, but Inkarna has gone on to a sekret submission. I can't say more but I'm very excited.

Without further ado, here's my working blurb:

Ashton Kennedy wasn’t a nice guy. He cheated on his girlfriend, knocked up a powerful drug lord’s sister, and abused vast quantities of illegal narcotic substances. The guy who ran him over with a big shiny SUV was doing the world a favour. His very male and rather tattooed body is the last place Elizabeth Rae Perry – a member of an ancient Egyptian cult – expected to reincarnate in, instead of the three-year-old girl she’d been promised.

Not only must she now come to terms with her new existence in the body of a rather disagreeable man, and clean up the mess he made of his life, she also has to unravel the mystery of why House Adamastor’s chapter house is standing empty and find a way to protect a dangerous secret she had no idea she was supposed to keep. As if fate couldn’t deal her another blow, she has also attracted the attention of a very malicious and potentially dangerous ghost.
